About UsW. A. Truelove has been a family owned and run firm since its inception in 1885. Starting at Alma Cottage, Vernon Road, Sutton, the founder, Walter Andrew and his wife Annie, built up the funeral directing and monumental masonry business which is now a well-established and respected name in the country. In 1921, Walter's successor Harry Alexander, took the business through a period of growth, opening two new branches in Sutton, as well as branches in Wallington, Epsom and Cheam. Additional services were offered, and the business flourished. The second world war came and went, and all Truelove premises suffered bomb damage which was quickly repaired. The firm's success continued, and in 1950 they opened a new chapel block by being granted a licence to extend its premises despite the shortage of building materials after the war. The growth continued throughout the 1960s, through natural progress and acquisition. Trueloves was the first British firm of funeral directors to introduce London ambulances to their fleet as removal vehicles, a move which has proved particularly popular for nursing homes. The Company was also one of the first to offer an embalming service. The family tradition continues to this day, with Simon and David Truelove now overseeing the firm's growth to ensure that the name of Truelove continues to serve the local community for many generations to come.
